A twelve-month formation journey with the Community of the Wayfinders
There is a particular tiredness many of us know well. Not the tiredness of a hard day, but the deeper weariness of a faith that has quietly become striving, of always rowing and rarely resting. Alongside it, often, a longing: to live from Love rather than for it, and to find a way of following Jesus that feels rooted, unhurried, and native to this place we call home.
Voyaging by Love is an invitation into that way.
Living from Love, not for it
At the heart of this journey is a single reorientation: from striving to resting, from performing to abiding. We are not asked to earn a love that already holds us. We are invited to return to it, again and again, and to let it become the water our lives are carried on.
This is the through-line of everything here. Not living for Love, but from it.
Not a course to complete, but a rhythm to inhabit
Voyaging by Love is not a programme you finish. It is a rhythm you grow into across a year, and carry long after.
We take our name and our shape from the ancient art of wayfinding, the practice of navigating vast oceans without maps, guided instead by stars, swells, winds, and the flight of birds. Wayfinding asks not for control but for attentiveness. So too with the life of faith: we learn to notice, to listen, and to trust the quiet leading of the Spirit, navigating not by certainty, but by grace.
And the waka is never crewed alone. This is a shared voyage, travelled alongside others who are learning the same unforced rhythms of grace.
The shape of the year
The year unfolds in four movements, each a season of the voyage:
- Preparing the Waka: being made ready, and learning to begin from rest.
- Reading the Signs: growing in attentiveness to God, to creation, and to our own souls.
- Voyaging Together: deepening into community, companionship, and shared practice.
- Nearing the Shore: gathering what we have learned, and carrying it into everyday, embodied life.
Along the way we are steadied by six stars, ngā whetū, that give the voyage its orientation: Living from Love, Attentive Presence, Sacred Rhythm, Embodied Trust, Compassionate Presence, and Simplicity and Mission. These are not tasks to achieve but truths to return to.
At a glance
- When: Twelve months, beginning November 2026.
- Weekly: A gentle rhythm of prayer.
- Monthly: An online hui (Zoom), gathering the crew.
- Companionship: An anamchara (soul friend) and the accompaniment of a Kaitiaki.
- In person: Two ‘in person’ gatherings across the year, Whakatika and Whakatau.

Who this is for
This way is for you if you are weary of a faith that has become performance, and long for rest. If the spiritual journey has felt lonely, and you long for company on the water. If you sense a pull toward a rooted, embodied rhythm of following Jesus that belongs to Aotearoa, to whenua, waka, and te reo.
You do not need to have it all worked out. You only need to be willing to come and see.
Cost
We want cost to be an invitation, not a barrier. The voyage is offered at two levels, and we simply ask that you choose the one that best reflects your circumstances, honestly and freely:
- Retired or lower income: $40 per month, or $480 for the year.
- Waged or funded: $80 per month, or $960 for the year.
If cost is the thing that would keep you from the journey, please tell us when you express your interest. We will always find a way to talk it through. No one should be left on the shore for the sake of money.
